REVEAL: The Superheroes – Rock Band

The Superheroes are an eight-piece band from Inverclyde who have been trained by Limelight Studios for the past seven years. The band consists of a mixture of Limelight professionals and musicians with learning disabilities who work collaboratively to write and perform their own material.

The Superheroes perform at festivals, in schools and as part of events such as The European Song Contest for Disabled Artists, where they were one of only ten bands selected to perform in 2003. Summer 2006 saw a collaborative project between Limelight (then Sounds of Progress) and the National Theatre of Scotland called “Life, Stories and Dreams”, where The Superheroes played in the Grand Finale at Clydebank Town Hall.

In 2007 The Superheroes performed at the Greenock Arts Guild Theatre, as part of a showcase of Inverclyde’s musical talent. The band also played at Helensburgh’s Commodore Hotel, as part of a collaborative concert between Limelight and Helensburgh-based Jigsaw kids (a charity who work with young people with disabilities).

In 2009 the band released their debut album Trongate Sessionswhich features a fine array of original songs and an immensely talented role call of musicians, both disabled and non-disabled. The rock band then went on to perform a series of gigs working with blind vocalist Sarah Caltieri to great acclaim.
